    So Happy

    March 9, 2018 Enya Xue

    Hey!

My name is Enya Xue, and I am a grade 11 on the Mission Peru Team 2018. I’m just going to tell you guys a bit about our experience having been here for just over 24 hours.

So to start off, we arrived in Lima, Peru yesterday at about 1am. We then got on a bus at 3am to drive 10 hours to Trujillo, where we are now. Personally (and I’m sure the vast majority of the team will back me up on this), it didn’t really seem real that we were going to Peru until we got on the plane, (at that point there was no turning back!!) Many of us were nervous and didn’t know what to expect, but one thing was for sure: we are here to serve God, and no matter what he throws at us, we’ll be able to go through it all because we have Him on our side.

Fast forward 24 hours after arriving, we have now met some wonderful people, played with adorable, loving kids, helped chop down massive, spikey plants with machetes, shoveled and wheel barrowed tons of sand, and eaten an abundance of chicken and rice (which is always amazing, we didn’t know chicken could be cooked in so many different ways). We’re learning to choose joy in situations where we may be challenged to see things positively, and we are always trying to give 110% in everything that we do.

One big thing that we’ve noticed since getting here is that everyone is so happy. They may not have much, but they make up for it through the amount of joy and kindness in their hearts, because they have the most valuable, precious thing that many others don’t: their love for God.

We’re definitely really excited to see what the rest of the trip has in store for us. So far, it has already been incredibly life changing, and it’s only been a day!

Hey, Enya. Thanks for the update on how you and the team are doing! We parents are a bit nervous, too, and are so glad to see pictures of our kids doing the Lord's work and reading about their experiences through blogs like yours. Thanks so much for taking the time to write! We continue to pray and enjoy the adventure with you all. Eph. 3:20-21

So glad to hear you guys have landed safely and travelled safely to Trujillo! Hopefully you've been enjoying the meals generously prepared by the Peruvians and your bodies have accustomed to the new environment (hope you've all had a bowel movement by now haha). This is my prayer for you all: Our Father in heaven, we praise You for Your goodness and faithfulness in sending this mission team. We thank You for all the past mission teams and churches who have partnered with Inca Link to make this happen. We thank You God that even though You don't need us, You choose us to participate in Your story. We praise You because You are God, You are greater, stronger, higher, and mightier than anything we will see, feel, or face in the coming days. I pray for God's favour and blessings over each of you, to not grow weary but find rest and refuge in Him. I pray that you wouldn't find this work to be burdensome, but to find joy and LOVE to give 110% in construction because you love our God and to glorify Him. I pray that He will break your hearts for what breaks His; that you will have compassion and comfort others because He is the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort. I pray that you would continually challenge yourself to immerse in the Peruvian culture and follow Christ's example in servanthood. I pray against fear, I pray against laziness, I pray against complacency, I pray that God will keep evil far from all of you. All glory, honour, and power be His forever and ever. In Jesus' magnificent name I pray, Amen.

Thanks for sharing with us! I just love hearing about how happy the people are and the joy they experience knowing God. It sounds like it was an exhausting trip getting there and yet you are already busy at work. Praying for strength as you continue to serve God through this time in Peru.

Thanks for the update Enya. We are excited back here as well. It's so nice to see the pictures of all of you working, playing, and praying with the kids. Keep choosing joy! What a profound statement. We often forget that we can choose joy. We think it is something that happens to us. But, we remember we've been told to "Count it all joy..." and that is in the hard times that James is talking about. We continue to pray for all of you.
